A serving area is a named list of suburbs — “Eastern suburbs”, “Inner west”. You build it once per location and use it on as many schedules as you like. Attach one to a schedule and only customers in those suburbs see times from that schedule. This is only for staff who travel to customers. For fixed-site work, leave every schedule on Serve all suburbs.

When you need one

Only when someone covers different parts of town at different times. Sam works near home in the mornings and further out in the afternoons. That’s two schedules, each pointing at a different list: If someone covers the whole catchment area all the time, you don’t need a list at all. The Serving Areas section can stay empty.

Where the suburbs come from

The pool is the location’s catchment areas. If a suburb isn’t showing in either picker, add it to the location’s catchment areas first.

Create a list

In the Serving Areas section of Working Schedule, choose New List and give it a name. Then add suburbs one of two ways.

Manual pick

Tick suburbs from the location’s catchment areas. Use this when you know exactly which ones you want.

Find nearby

Set a base address and drag the radius slider between 3 and 100 km. A map shows the circle, and the suburbs inside it appear for you to tick. Only suburbs already in the location’s catchment area are shown, however wide you set the radius. Use this when you’re thinking in distance — “everywhere within 15 km of the depot”. A list needs a name and at least one suburb.

Use a list on a schedule

In the schedule, under Serving area, pick the list instead of Serve all suburbs. The schedule row then shows the list’s name as a chip, so you can see at a glance which schedules are limited.

Editing a list

Edit the list once and every schedule using it updates. You don’t need to touch the schedules. Adding a suburb to “Eastern suburbs” makes it bookable on every schedule pointing at that list.

Deleting a list

You can’t delete a list while a schedule uses it. You’ll be told which schedules are holding it. Move those schedules onto a different list, or back to Serve all suburbs, then delete.

What customers see

A customer entering a pickup address only sees times from schedules whose serving area covers their suburb. Someone in Bondi looking at Sam sees the morning schedule’s times but not the afternoon’s, if only the morning list includes Bondi.
This limits what customers see, not what you can do. You can book any address into any schedule from the admin portal. You’ll get a warning that the pickup isn’t in the usual area, which you can accept. See Warnings and overrides.
On the booking calendar, search a suburb to see who covers it. Staff who don’t are dimmed, along with hours from schedules that don’t cover it.
