# Warnings and overrides

> What each warning means, when it's fine to push past it, and the one case where you can't.

You know things the platform doesn't. A provider who's happy to start early for a regular. A customer a little outside the usual area who's worth the drive.

So when something about a booking looks unusual, you get a warning rather than a locked door — with one exception, covered at the end.

## How warnings behave

Each warning shows up twice, on purpose:

1. **A popup, the first time it happens.** You either **Keep and continue** or **Close** and go change something.
2. **A banner that stays put** next to the section it's about, as a reminder while you finish the form.

Accepting one warning doesn't accept the others — each is a separate decision. And if you fix something and then break it again, the popup comes back, because it's a new decision.

If a warning is still unaccepted when you try to save, the popup reappears first.

<Note>
  Where the warning comes from a specific working schedule, any note attached to that schedule is shown in the popup. That's often where the real answer is — "Fridays are city-only", or "no early starts in school terms".
</Note>

## The warnings

### Heads up — booking outside the usual schedule

> Sam doesn't usually work at this time on this day. You can still save the booking — it just won't follow their normal schedule.

Or, when they're rostered but for different work:

> Sam doesn't usually offer Manual driving lesson at this time. You can still save the booking, but it falls outside what their schedule covers.

**What it means.** The time you've picked isn't covered by that provider's [working schedule](/manage-schedule/overview), or the schedule that does cover it is set up for other services.

**When to continue.** They've agreed to the extra hour. You're covering for someone. A one-off you've already cleared with them.

**When to stop.** Nobody's told the provider. Check first — an overridden schedule is a booking they may not turn up for.

### Pickup not in the usual area

> Sam doesn't usually cover Brunswick at this time. The booking can still go through if that's intentional.

**What it means.** The pickup address falls outside the area that provider covers during the time you've chosen.

**When to continue.** They've agreed to travel. The customer is meeting them somewhere else. It's an edge case you know works.

**When to stop.** You picked the address from an autocomplete without checking. The provider has a booking either side and no way to get across town.

<Tip>
  Use the [suburb search](/take-bookings/calendar) before you start. Type the pickup suburb and the calendar dims everyone who doesn't cover it, so you pick the right provider first time and never see this warning.
</Tip>

### Tight travel window

> Sam has another booking nearby that limits how much they can travel around this time. You can still save the change if the customer's confirmed it works for them.

**What it means.** The provider has bookings close enough on either side that getting from one to the next is a squeeze.

This is the one that most often turns into a real problem — it's how days quietly fall apart from mid-morning onwards.

**What to do about it.** The popup suggests the fix: **add buffer time** before or after in the Time & Provider section. Ten or fifteen minutes here saves an apology later.

**When to continue.** The two addresses are minutes apart. The customer has said they're flexible about the exact start.

### Couldn't verify this slot

> Couldn't verify this slot — saving anyway will not be blocked.

Not a warning about the booking — the checks themselves couldn't run. Go ahead if you're confident in the booking, and check it afterwards.

## The one that's serious

A **conflict** gets its own dialog, styled as a danger rather than a caution:

> Conflicts with: Jane Smith — 60 min lesson at 2:00 PM

This means the time you've chosen overlaps something already in that provider's day, or falls outside their working hours entirely.

You can still confirm and continue when creating or editing a booking — sometimes you genuinely mean to double-book, or you're fixing data. But unlike the soft warnings, this one says something is definitely already there.

<Warning>
  **Two places where a conflict stops you completely:**

  * **Dragging a booking to a new time on the calendar.** The confirm button is disabled while the new slot conflicts, and dragging into a taken slot snaps the booking back.
  * **Saving blocked-out time.** You can't create unavailability over an existing booking.

  In both cases, move the thing that's in the way first, or use the edit form instead of dragging.
</Warning>
