# Reminders

> Change when the booking reminder goes out for one service, or turn it off for that service.

Your business sends a booking reminder before every appointment. That reminder is set up once for the whole business — how long before, and whether it goes by email, SMS, or both.

This tab lets one service do something different with the **timing**, or skip the reminder altogether.

Open a service from **Settings → Catalogue → Services**, then select **Reminders**.

## Why you'd change it for one service

The right amount of warning depends on what the customer has to do to get ready.

* A **driving lesson** where someone needs to arrange a lift: 24 hours is about right.
* A **quick appointment** they can walk to: 2 hours is more useful, since a day-old reminder is forgotten by the time it matters.
* A **long or expensive booking** they've planned around: 48 hours gives them time to reschedule rather than no-show.

## What you'll see

At the top of the tab is a summary of what your business does by default — something like:

> Your organisation sends booking reminders 24 hours before the booking, by email and SMS.

That's the setting this service uses unless you change it here. If your business isn't sending reminders at all, it says so instead.

## Change the timing for this service

<Steps>
  <Step title="Turn on the override">
    Switch on **Use a different lead time for this service**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Decide whether to send one at all">
    **Send a booking reminder for this service** controls it. Turn it off to stop reminders for this service only — everything else keeps its normal reminder.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the hours">
    With reminders on, enter how many hours before the booking the reminder should go out. The business default is shown underneath for comparison.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Save changes">
    Leave the override switched off and the service quietly follows the business setting, including any future change you make to it.
  </Step>
</Steps>

<Note>
  Only the **timing** changes here. Whether the reminder goes by email or SMS stays set for the whole business — you can't send SMS for one service and email for another.
</Note>

<Tip>
  Set the override only where you have a reason. Every service you leave on the default picks up future changes automatically, which is one less thing to remember when you decide to move reminders from 24 hours to 48.
